Between the gables

Tall Amsterdam canal houses reflected in still water, with yellow autumn leaves floating on the surface under a soft grey sky.

Between The Gables. 2012,

Narrow canal houses lean toward one another, their dark facades and warm windows stacked like characters in a quiet conversation. Autumn leaves drift across the surface of the water, breaking the reflections into soft, shifting fragments of colour. I am drawn to this calm pause in the city, where the geometry of gables and waterline turns a familiar Amsterdam street into a held breath.
